The Internet has made shopping so easy and affordable in a lot of cases. There are many places to choose from, but I would stick with secure, well-known sites like www.ebay.com or www.half.com . Another thing to keep in mind when shopping online is to use sites that accept paypal. Why use paypal? www.paypal.com offers a buyer protection program when using paypal. If your item arrives broken, or not what was described you can get a full refund through paypal. Usually any seller will be more than happy to make it right with you, but there are always people who won’t make it right. You can find just about anything on eBay. New and used items, from antiques to the latest electronic gadget. Half.com is a media based site, meaning you can only buy and sell media items like books, video games and systems and movies. I use this site to buy all my personal dvds. I can usually find dvds in excellent condition for under five dollars a piece and this includes the shipping. So, if there is a movie that you always wanted to own, but never could find it; www.half.com is the site to buy all your media goods. I even buy some of my college text books on half.com and usually find it for a considerably cheaper amount.

The internet has impact society in several ways. One way that it has benefited society is how the criminal databases have grown and now are interlinked throughout the United States and several other countries. With technology being utilized more efficiently we can explore certain sites enabling us to identify certain criminals. Using the site http://www.nationalpredatordatabase.com/ we can view sexual offenders to see if any live in your area. This can be extremely useful if you are thinking of moving to a certain area. Another site like http://www.state.mi.us/mdoc/asp/otis2.html can be useful to know what kind of person someone is. By knowing someones name you can search for their prior crimes. It well tell you if they were in prison and why. This can also be useful if you think something about someone is not quite right about them.

These are just a few examples of how technology has allowed us to keep updating criminal databases and having the information available to the public. With technology today, if a criminal decides to leave the state for a criminal offense he or she has committed, they will get caught as soon as their prints are uploaded into the criminal database. Being interlinked on a database makes it much easier to retrieve, upload, and share anything to do with the criminal database system.

Many students today are taking classes online for a number of different reasons. I think most of it is pure convenience. You do not have to drive to and from school. You can do your work at your convenience, just as long as they are done by the due dates. Taking online classes is just another way that the internet has positively impacted society. Even though you are not attending class you still have to motivated and disciplined. Don’t be fooled, just because they are online classes doesn’t make them easy classes. You can spend a lot of time just on the discussion boards alone, which are required. The plus side to this is the interaction with your classmates.

To take online classes it helps to only be computer literate, but also computer savvy. You will use several different programs and it will help to have a common knowledge for using certain programs. If you are new to utilizing the internet I would highly recommend only taking a class or two to get the idea of how everything works. It can be overwhelming at first, but once you get the hang of things you will come to realize you made the right choice.

Child Predators on the Internet

I have three beautiful girls, two of which use the Internet on a daily basis. I know from time to time they talk to their classmates online. They almost always use a site called www.myspace.com to talk to each other. This site only allows people who you invite to talk and leave posts. This is very important to me because I know that there are evil people in this world just looking to exploit a child. I have had the “talk” with my daughters about the do’s and don’ts online. I am sure that most people know about what kind of people are lurking out there. Did you know that they can attack your child while you are at work or asleep.

A lot of the times these child predators will pose as a child the same age in an attempt to obtain information or a relationship. After gaining the trust of a child they will attempt to meet your child in person. That is what happened to this child, read the horrifying events by following this link.

This can happen to anyone. The best thing to do is to inform your child about the dangers lurking out there. Do not talk to strangers, this means online or not! We have to find ways of combating these monsters. I think informing our children is a start. I am sure we have all heard the stories about someone becoming a millionaire using the Internet. The fact of the matter is it is possible, but not probable. Any one can make money on the Internet in various ways, but usually not enough to quit your day job. All it takes is motivation and a little bit of work. There are several websites that you can use to sell products like www.ebay.com , www.half.com , and www.craigslist.com . These sites are not only used to sell things, but you can find deals of a lifetime on them as well. Everyone has their niche and I would suggest starting with this. Whether it is video games or antiques; if you have something to sell the odds are that there is a buyer waiting for it.

You may ask the question, where do I get inventory to sell? I know some people that just sell things in the spring when they want to clean out the garage. For those that want to do it year round, it is as simple as going to garage sales or second hand stores; to start with. You can even buy on eBay and turn around and sell it on another site the same day, or vice versa. Snap a few pictures and give a brief description and you are on your way. For anyone that is serious about learning how to sell on the Internet I would strongly suggest buying a reference book to help you get started. Even though all the information you will need is on the Internet somewhere, it is nice to have a reference book. I have used the selling on eBay for dummies when I first started. Although the Internet has had mostly a positive impact on society, it also has impacted it in a negative way. The Internet is being exploited in several ways, one of which is Internet scams. I use paypal and eBay on a daily basis. From time to time I receive an email asking for personal information like passwords, bank account information, or social security numbers; just to name a few. These are known as “phishing scams”. You might have received one of these before. There was a phishing scam going around that stated they were in another country and was coming to America. They needed your bank account information so they could deposit money in your account in an attempt to avoid the taxes on the million dollars. They also stated that if you did this that they would give you a huge sum of money. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true it very well could be a scam. Even though some of us know about the several Internet scams lurking out there just looking for an opportunity to take advantage of someone; some of us do not. The only way to prevent you from being a victim is to educate yourself. Many questions arise when talking about the social benefits of using the Internet. Many people believe that you lose that sense of social bonding through the Internet. That may be true in certain aspects of the online world. I feel that if you know where to look, you can help change the world right from your computer desk. I strongly feel that the Internet has a positive role in society. We can simply make our lives easier by utilizing the Internet effectively. Technology has allowed us to communicate around the world; by using webcams and websites, just to name a few.
